A guest lecture on ‘Computer Organization’ was organized by the AI & ML Department on 26th November 2021, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Dr. Shiva Murthy.G, Program Coordinator & Associate Professor, CSE Department, VTU, Belgaum was the guest speaker. The welcome note was given by our student Ms.Meghana, II year, Department of AI&ML, MVJCE. The program was presided over by Dr. P. Mahabaleswarappa (Principal, MVJCE), Dr. M Brindha (Vice Principal, MVJCE), Prof. Vaman B Gudi (CoE & Registrar) and Prof.Tamilarasi(HOD/CSE)

The guest lecture was organized for II year AIML and CSE students. The event aimed to give the students an idea about the basics of Computer Organization, its working and its link with Internet of things. The aim of the event was to expose the students to the various aspects related to computer organization and how internet of things plays a vital role in the world, today.

Network operators can easily stop intruders to enter the network making IoT security the most modern IoT trend. In 2021, we would likely see an increase in the security-centric smart gadgets, counting AI-driven, automatic capacity to scan networks for IoT gadgets. Dr. Shiva Murthy. G started his talk with motivational anecdotes that illustrated the basics of Computer Organization. He pointed out that one of the most in-demand positions in the field of technology is that of IOT. He outlined the facts of architecture of a computer.

Big data and fast data applications are transforming enterprise environments and driving changes in the fundamental basic technologies that make up the data center. Resource person discussed emerging trends in computer architecture, in storage, memory, compute, and network, as well as associated changes in operating system software. In storage, new technologies like SMR and low Guest Lecture on Computer Organization latency NAND flash are driving the need for different storage interfaces and in the system software stack. Emerging non-volatile memories likewise require new interfaces and new software mechanisms. The RISC-V open instruction set architecture, and associated trend towards open source cores, will enable a new set of architectural opportunities, including options for large-scale in-memory, compute, for heterogeneous memory (using different types of memory in the same system), and for heterogeneous compute (combining general purpose and accelerator compute engines, sometimes within the same memory coherency domain). Dr.Shiva Murthy added these fundamental changes in the core technologies of the datacenter promise to unleash a new set of innovations in system architecture and in how difficult computational problems are solved at scale in a data-centric world

This guest lecture on Computer Organization focuses that several hardware and systems fields have made advances in technology. Resource person narrated the open new opportunities and challenges for provenance systems. He discussed the implications of processor and memory controller technologies that enable fine-grained lineage capture, resulting in more precise and accurate provenance. Then, he explained about the programmable storage, 3D memory and coprocessor technologies discussing how lineage capture in these heterogeneous environments results in richer and more complete provenance.

The event session considered the following Architectural questions: (i) Do the users think that their computers and laptops are safe? (ii) What is Internet of things? (iii) How the architecture of a computer system have impact on IOT?

Guest lecture on Computer OrganizationExplanation of the Architecture during the session

Internet of things is essential to secure computer systems from intrusion – as increased internet usage has resulted in increased security threats. The proposed guest lecture event mainly focused on the student’s interest in organization of computers. It featured a brief introduction to the world of starting with the importance of IOT, Architecture of Computers and their need in today's world scenario, including the basics of networking that will help the students have a deep understanding of the working of a computer.

Outcome of the Event

Participants gained insight on how a computer works and what is the organization in a system. The students gained knowledge in basics of IOT. The knowledge is essential for understanding the science behind IOT.

Overall, it was a very informative session
