Guest Lecture on Transparent Concrete
A Guest lecture on Transparent Concrete was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on 23rd September 2023 at seminar hall 4. 65 Students and all faculty members of the Civil Engineering Department participated in the guest lecture.
The session was related to the various innovations and trends in civil engineering. The core of the lecture focused on the change in scenario of concrete application and the innovative and recent different building materials used in construction. Speaker elaborated on the Transparent Concrete-its applications and importance in detail. The main objective of transparent concrete is to use sunlight as the light source instead of electrical energy to reduce the load on non- renewable sources and to develop energy saving material. Due to the addition of optical glass fibers in the concrete, light can be transmitted from inside out or outside in.
The guest lecture started with the arrival of the dignitaries on the dais. The dignitaries present were Mr. Kaushik Hajra, Zonal Technical Services manager, Adithya Birla Group, Bangalore.,Dr. N. Vetrivel (Head of Civil Engineering Department, MVJCE).
Prof. Muralidhara delivered the welcome address, welcoming the Chief Guest and participants. Prof. Asra delivered introduction about the guest speaker.
Mr. Kaushik Hajra, Zonal Technical Services manager, Adithya Birla Group, Bangalore then took over the session. He shared his experiences in the field of different types of concrete and building materials. He illuminated the significance of transparent concrete in civil engineering. His comprehensive insights resonated with the audience, providing a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions that emerge when a new construction projects are evolved. Students gained valuable insights into the real-world applications of transparent concrete. With practical case studies, Mr. Kaushik Hajra illustrated the practicality of transparent concrete. The lecture concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which participants had the chance to inquire about specific applications in the field of construction and ideas for their major project.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Muralidhara R., extending gratitude to the esteemed Key speaker for his presence and an excellent session, to the Management of MVJCE for providing an opportunity to organize such events, to the Principal Dr. Suresh Babu V and Vice Principal Dr. M. Brindha for their constant support and encouragement, faculty of Civil Engineering Department and all the Civil Engineering students for their participation. He also thanked the IT helpdesk, non-teaching staff and technicians for their contribution on 23rd September 2023. Dr. N. Vetrivel presented a sapling to the speaker as a token of gratitude.

The participants are able to get exposure on Transparent Concrete (PO5). The participants got an understanding of various challenges involved in real time field applications (PO12). Overall, this event helps the students in improving their perspective towards research
