The Departments of Aeronautical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, MVJCE, organized a short-term training program and the resource person was Prof. P Ramesh Kumar, Former chief Manager, HAL Bangalore (Rtd) and Instructor in Jet Airways. The session started at 11.30 am and the workshop was conducted in Room No 244, Aeronautical simulation lab. The training program is to impart knowledge on Aircraft Control systems, control surfaces of an aircraft through the Fly-By-Wire (FBW) concept.
A total of 23 participants including 12 students and 11 faculties from Aeronautical/Aerospace Department participated. Day -1 (30 Jun 2023) was on basic concepts like Introduction to control systems, control surfaces both primary and secondary for an aircraft. Dr. P. Arunagiri, Dr. P. Suresh and Dr. V Shravan Koundinya organized the event, ably supported by other faculty members of the department.
The Chief Guest was Prof. P Ramesh, Former chief Manager, HAL Bangalore (Rtd) and Instructor in Jet Airways was involved in development of avionics, control systems and project Iron Bird at HAL, Bangalore. He has vast experience of about 40 years on control systems, test rigs and Avionics related to aircrafts.
1. Welcome & Introduction of the Guest
The resource person was welcomed by Dr. Niranjanappa, HOD AS, mentioned the relevance of the topic FBW to the Aeronautical and Aerospace community. The Guest was introduced to the participants about his vast experience and contribution in the Aviation field, particularly to the Indigenous Projects like LCA. Prof SC Gupta HOD AE briefly explained the importance of Fly-By-Wire in the aircraft flying both civil and military aircraft., and the benefits to the students and faculty with this STTP course.
2. Start of Session – Basics of control systems and control surfaces
Day - 2, 3rd July, 2023
The session started at 10.30 am and detailed presentations / lecture was given by the resource person on Fly-by-wire technology. The importance of this technology in the field of aviation was discussed at length.
Day - 3, 4th July, 2023
The session was based on complete analysis and advanced topics related to Fly-By-Wire technology. The technology was explained with an example of Boein-777 aircraft systems. Participants actively interacted with the expert and understood the concepts of this modern technology. Few cases of control system failure were also discussed.
Final day session and lecture
On the third day of the programme, by 0430 pm a brief closing ceremony was held and the expert was honored. He was thanked on behalf of the AE & AS Departments and MVJCE. At the end a group photo was taken for the records of the STTP.
Prof. P. Ramesh shared his extensive knowledge on the topic ‘Fly-By-Wire’ with the participants. This short-term training program was an eye opener to futuristic technology in Aeronautics and Aerospace technology pertaining to control systems and advanced avionics. It enhanced the knowledge of the participants on the topics that were discussed and gave them a vast exposure in the domain of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering.
